Remaking Resident Evil 1-4: Four Shades of Horror
The more time goes, the more horror seems likes a privileged place for remaking video games. Upon the release of Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 last year (see my full retrospective) I have decided to dive deep into the four Resident Evil games that have already been remade, and figure out how Capcom has used their remakes to reinvent and reimagine survival-horror over the past twenty years. And as you will see, they did it brilliantly from day 1.
Since this video did well on YouTube I figured I might as well link it on here. I’m currently experimenting with different formats so don’t hesitate to like and subscribe on YouTube, and connect with me on X/Twitter!
Here’s the table of content if you want to jump directly to one game:
0:00 – Introduction
0:56 – Survival-Horror in the original Resident Evil trilogy (1996-1999)
2:46 – Resident Evil 1 Remake (2002)
5:20 – Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019)
9:09 – Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020)
13:44 – Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023)
16:43 – The next Resident Evil Remakes? (TBC)
